  1. Blinding You With Science! Finally!

This post is dedicated to those of you who could maybe use some gymly encouragement. (I'm looking at you, Erik and Manda.) I know that finding time for it can be a bitch; it took a little adjusting, at first. Weight loss was never (and still isn't) my primary goal, so it was less of an optional thing and more of a "Get your ass down here, period." But now it's just habit, like any of my other daily routines.

Here's a little incentive for you: my three-month progress report, by the numbers.

5 - hours I spend at the gym per week. (That's just one hour a day, M-F. Sound like a lot? Well, there are 168 hours in a week. Think about that.)

    10 - number of pounds I've lost.

22.1 - my percentage of body fat, which is now below average for my height/weight.

1.5 - inches I have lost around my stomach.

1 - inches I have lost around my hips.

1 - inches I have lost around my thighs.

3 - how many times better I look in all those damn bikinis I ordered.

1 million - how many times better I feel now (I'm not talking about self-esteem, I mean physically better).

    :)

Well, consider me sufficiently blinded. :)

1 hour a day would unfortunately kill what's left of my free time, a lot of which is spent learning things for work and dealing with obligations.

I typically get home by around 6:30 p.m., then (being the cook in these parts) I cook, then we eat, then it's something like 8 p.m., then if I go to the gym for an hour + come back, counting commute time we're approaching 10 p.m. At around 10:15 p.m. I start whining about how there aren't enough hours in a day, or something like that.

Of course there's always a way. As my design professors used to say when we bitched about how his assignments took too much time, "If you love it, you'll find a way." I used to work out 4x/week with a personal trainer. The guy kicked my ass but he got results. I lost lots of weight, I was lookin' good, feelin' good, and I was in almost constant pain but that didn't matter. Ahhh, those were the salad days.

Maybe I'll take up smoking again. I didn't start gaining serious weight until I quit.

Noooo, don't take up smoking again, whatever you do.

I have a better idea: split dinner duty. Ask Brenda, really nicely, to be responsible for dinner just two nights a week. You can do it two nights a week too - and then one day a week, do takeout, or something. That way you can have time to go three nights a week. It's better than not at all...

      Just a thought.

It's hard to explain, but splitting dinner duty is...thorny...and I think I'll leave it at that. :)

There's always a way, I know. Dinner isn't an excuse to not go. That's why leftovers were invented, right? :)

      Ah, "thorny"... okay. Gotcha. :)

Leftovers, roasts that you can throw in the crock pot and come home to find ready to eat; decent takeout, doing most of your prep work on the weekends to save time during the week... Sure, there's always a way, but sometimes that way is a pain in the ass. I have faith in you though. :)

I'm so tired of my job, hell, I'd come cook for you guys - you can pay me in Smirnoff Ice. lol
