I'm a fly girl... got my hair did.
I've had pretty much the exact same hairstyle my entire life - freakin' long (like down-to-my-lower-back-long). I don't know what's up, but people seem to find it fascinating. Twice in the past two weeks, random people I've never met have come up to me and (in the first case) asked to touch my hair, and (in the second case) just touched it without asking. As someone who believes hardcore in the non-violation of my personal space, this bugs me, but usually it's just other girls/women admiring it, so I haven't had to roundhouse kick anyone in the face... yet.
Anyway, with the exception of one horribly ill-conceived perm in the 8th grade and the rare days where I leave it naturally wavy, my hair has been long and straight forever; no style to it or... well, anything. This is because I have a thing about getting my hair cut. It freaks me out, to be quite honest. I'm always worried some idiot is going to totally screw it up - plus I'm lazy, so I usually go for a year or more in between trims. But, even I have my limits, so on Friday, while waiting for my totally hot friend Jenn to get off work in Martinsburg, I gave in and submitted to getting probably 5 inches taken off.
*exhales through teeth
I'm not going to go as far as saying it's a BAD haircut, but it certainly is... interesting. Yeah, that's it. Somehow, layers in the back are shorter than the layers in the front (?). And they don't quite seem to be even. And I have these sort of long thin bangs in the front (?!) but not REALLY, like apparently the hairstylist had commitment issues and decided she didn't want to actually put noticeable bangs in, just these... pieces, that are kinda shorter than everything else.
Enough freckles already, too. Shit.You can sort of see them here, but keep in mind that the wind was blowing my hair all over at the time (action shot!) and that I was hungover after a night of doing the Booty Call and whatever it is one might do to Baby Got Back (it's a looong story), so, they don't always look that bad, but... still...
Meh. It'll just grow out in a month.

Okay, okay. I'll see if I can enlist someone to get a photo from behind.
I started cutting my own hair when I got tired of paying people to mess it up.
Although, from the teeny pic you posted, it looks fabulous.
I know that's you in the picture, but I swear it doesn't look at thing like you. Is that weird or what?
Of course I have no idea what you look like in person and cameras lie, so I could be way off the mark.
I don't know, man. I always photograph funny. If you were to actually see me in person there's a decent chance I might not look like any of the photos you've seen. :)
Rebecca - I cut guys' hair all the time, so I think I might be able to pull off cutting my own... I just don't have the first clue how to make sure the back's okay. How do you usually do it?
Here - looks awful from the back, but not as bad from the side.

Yep, I can definitely see what you mean. Perhaps her eyes were closed when she was cutting your hair? Dunno.
At least it's long enough to correct. If somebody royally screwed up my hair, the nuclear option (shaving it all off) is about all I'd have to fall back on.
I'm wondering if perhaps she had a small seizure during the haircut. Or maybe a minor stroke.
No way - I can't get any more cut off, it's way too short as it is (she screwed that up too). lol
It's really not that bad, but I could see wanting to even it up. It's kind of TOO layered, you know? But even if you cut it off to even up the layers, it will still be a really nice length -- probably not as long as you're used to, but still nice.
I like the bangs, though. And your hair is a nice color.
Aw, thanks. Actually, I've since found out that if I curl the ends, it actually looks alright. Which is good, because I wasn't going to do anything about it anyway. :)
I love your email address, btw. Is that from the kids' book Is Your Mama A Llama? I saw that once in a bookstore and it totally made me laugh... so cute.
As far as making the back even...usually I just hack at it blindly, the check it with a mirror. This last time I could find a mirror and asked my 10 year old if it looked normal.
I usually ask my husband if he's around, and just keep cutting until I get it right!
