  1. OMMFG, Stone Temple Pilots are back!

(Yeah, yeah, nobody but me cares, I know.)

At first I heard it was just for a summer tour and maybe one last album. Now reports have Scott Weiland calling it quits with Velvet Revolver, leaving fans to speculate whether STP is back full time, or wtf.

STP is one of my all-time favorite bands, in case you couldn't tell (go ahead, make fun of me - I don't give a shit). Core and Purple were in heavy rotation in the Jennyville family household around the time I started junior high; Tiny Music... quickly became a constant audio companion to my high school years, and No. 4 was a permanent fixture in my car stereo for the entire summer between my high school graduation and college. Lately, "Hollywood Bitch" from Shangri-La Dee Da has been my workout song of choice. Both of the DeLeo brothers' side projects, Talk Show and Army of Anyone, hold similarly special places in my heart. Hell, I've even been known to enjoy some Velvet Revolver, even though it's a totally different animal. And sure, Weiland can be a bit of a twat on occasion, but he *did* write the lyrics to THE feel-good love song of the nineties.

Those albums were the soundtracks to quite a few good times, wild parties, and crazy ideas; they helped me through a few broken hearts, accompanied me to many an away basketball game, and came along for virtually every road trip I took during that era. Hearing those songs, even now, is like seeing old friends again (and in many cases, better).

And that, my friends, is why I will be waiting patiently for a Tour Date Near Me, and keeping my fingers crossed that Weiland can keep himself out of rehab long enough to make it happen.
